Red Bean Burger

Almost every thursday, my older brother’s girlfriend and I meet to cook something nice, while the boys are having their weekly BBQ and watching very manly action TV shows (and sometimes Germany’s Next Topmodel during ad breaks…). It’s become a nice tradition and we always enjoy the food soooo so much! So, last week we made these red bean (or kidney bean) burgers and were over the moon by their deliciousness!

We used simple toasties, because we wanted to keep things simple and didn’t want to buy a ton of burger buns for only four burgers. And we forgot to make/buy sauces, but simply used tomato paste and avocado, which was just fine, but feel free to improve that part, or any part, because we just focussed on the patty ; ) As a side, we had some mixed oven-baked fries of potatoes and sweet potatoes.
To give the patties the special something, we added some Moroccan Ras el Hanout, which is a spice blend that typically contains cumin, fennel, cinnamon, anise, nutmeg and some others and which is my absolute fave blend at the moment and acutally the only blend that I buy ready made.

1 can red/kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 shallot
1 tsp each of salt, pepper and Ras el Hanout
3 tbsp tomato paste1 small red chilli
4 tbsp chopped parsley
1 egg
50 g fine glutenfree breadcrumbs
30 g old fashinoned oats

also nice on the burger:
cucumber, tomato, avocado and lettuce

Finely chop the shallot and chilli (TM5: 5 sec/speed 5), add beans, tomato paste, spices, parsley and the egg and mash until it’s smooth but still a bit chunky (TM5: 10 sec/speed 5). Add breadcrumbs and combine well (TM5: 5 sec/speed 2,5) and then your oats and combine well (TM5: 10 sec/speed 3,5).
Form into four burger patties (2 cm thick) and fry in a greased pan on medium heat for about 5 minutes each per side.
Stack them up as you desire and enjoy your delicious and healthy burgers!
